Frequently Asked Questions
Are you a Psychiatrist?
No, I am a Board Certified Family Physician with expertise in and dedication for the Mental Health Care of adolescents, college students, professional/grad students, and adults.
According to the American Academy of Family Physicians(AAFP),
“Family Physicians are the primary managers of psychiatric conditions in one-third of their patients and currently provide the majority of Mental Health Care in the United States.”
“Family physicians have traditionally focused on treating the whole patient, and recognize the mind, body and spirit connection. Promotion of mental health, diagnosis and treatment of mental illness in the individual and family context are integral components of family medicine. Through residency training and continuing medical education family physicians are prepared to manage mental health problems in children, adolescents, and adults of all ages.”
Can you be my Primary Care Doctor?
No, you will need to maintain a relationship with your Primary Care Provider for your general health care needs. I am happy to collaborate with your Primary Care Provider as needed for facilitation of your care. If you do not have a Primary Care Provider, I encourage you to establish a relationship with one and I can provide recommendations.
Are you a Therapist?
No, though I am able to offer therapeutic support to my patients through active listening, motivational interviewing, and empathetic support. I have had additional training in trauma-informed care.
